The 2014 Golden Globes Fashion Wrap-Up!!

The Fictionista

Remember this from my blog post last January?

"January, for me, is all about the Golden Globes and fashion.

This was one of the best ceremonies in a long time, thanks to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The ladies were funny and classy and they kept things moving. In fact, the only thing I didn't like about them was that I didn't see them enough! I hope they're back next year, but I wonder if repeat performances will ruin the perfection of this one."

The awards ceremony gods listened to me and the funny ladies were back!! Next year, I'd like to be at the ceremony, sitting at a table with Ben & Jen. "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!"

Here's my breakdown of the ceremony:

The Hollywood Foreign Press (HFP) got it right: Andy Samberg and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It's a really funny show. And since they didn't give my girl Mindy Kaling and The Mindy Project any love...

The Hollywood Foreign Press (HFP) got it right, Part Deux: Elisabeth Moss in Top Of The Lake. It was a great mini-series directed by Jane Campion and I'm so glad Moss was recognized for it. She's smart, sexy, vulnerable and flawed as a detective investigating the disappearance of a 12-year old pregnant girl. If you haven't seen the show, and you like crime dramas, I think it's streaming on Netflix.

The HFP got it wrong: Behind the Candelabra.  I can't even... *dry heave*... It's... *sigh*

Best Monologue Joke: "Gravity is nominated for best film. It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age." ROTFLMAO

Now, the fashions...

Best dressed

Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph Lauren. When I saw her, I gasped. Gorgeous. The dress was simple and stunning. And on her skin tone... breathtaking.

Worst dressed

Paula Patton in Stephane Rolland Couture. It pains me to say this because I'm a big fan of Paula's and she's married to the sexy Robin Thicke (interracial love, holla ;-) ), but this dress did nothing to emphasize her beauty or her great figure.

Overrated

Cate Blanchett in Armani Couture. I am a fan of Cate's past choices and she looks beautiful, but I wasn't overwhelmed. Not like I was when she wore this (see below) to the Oscars in 2000.

Did you watch the Globes? What did you think? And what was Jacqueline Bisset "on"? ;-)

Finally, on another note, I am thrilled to announce that my debut novel, The Tycoon's Socialite Bride, will be released next month from Entangled Publishing!! I can't wait for you to read it. If you like the flavor of my blog posts, then you'll love the story.

Make sure you join me next month for more about my debut release and my Grammys ceremony and fashion recap!

Tracey Livesay's debut novel will be released with Entangled Publishing in February, 2014. She blogs here on the third Monday of every month. If you like the flavor she's bringing, you can check out her blog, Mimosas at Midnight or Like her Facebook page.

The Grammys!

On February 10, 2013, recording artists convened at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for "Music's Biggest Night", the 55th annual Grammy awards. It was an interesting night for a couple of reasons. One, it had been a year since the death of Whitney Houston cast a pall over the proceedings and two, everyone was abuzz about The Memo, sent to all the attendees dictating their dress:

"Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare flesh under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible puffy bare skin exposure."

Rockstars aren't known for their restraint. I was interested to see if they would comply with the new wardrobe restrictions. Some did, some didn't.

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra. For easy open, pull here...

Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello , who said she abided by the letter of the memo. Uh-huh.

Katy Perry in Gucci Resort 2013: no outer or under boob, just inner boob.

I can't say I was wowed by the fashions at this year's ceremony, but I do have one award to give away:

My "What was she thinking?" award goes to Rihanna...

I thought she looked beautiful in her scarlet Azzedine Alaia gown. But her arm accessory was problematic and I'm not talking about her Neil Lane bracelet.

The singer has reunited with her former love, Chris Brown, who was convicted of domestic assault against her a few years ago. Rihanna feels it's her life and, if it doesn't work out, her mistake. She's owning the decision, but she's still a role model to millions of people. She may not want to be, but she is and she's reaping a lot from that privilege. If she and Chris Brown want to be together again, that's her decision, but they BOTH need to be responsible and answer to the people paying for their albums and coming to their tours.

There. Ready to step down off my soap box.

Did you watch the 2013 Grammys? Any hits or misses in the fashions? What about the performances? What do you think about Rihanna and Chris Brown?

Make sure you join me next month for my Oscar recap, the ceremony and the fashions!!

Tracey Livesay just signed a contract with Entangled Publishing for her interracial, contemporary romance, The Billionaire's Socialite Bride and the other two in the series. How Much do I Love October? Let Me Count the Ways...

When I think of October, I don't think of Halloween and scary things. At least, not at first. The month of October holds an entirely different meaning for me.

First, and most important, one of my kids was born in October, so I always think in amazement how much time has passed, remember that child as a baby, think about what I was doing before I went into labor and look forward to the awesome party I'll throw and gifts I'll buy.

That should be reason enough to love the month of October, but it's only the top of my list.

I love October because its the start of Fall, my favorite season. It's a beautiful environment, the changing colors of the foliage a glorious backdrop to the sunny, crisp and cool weather. Perfect for rocking calf-high books with jeans and a classic cardigan.

October is also a great time in the world of entertainment. By the first week of October, most of the new shows on TV have premiered and I've added some gems to my repertoire. "Oscar bait" movies start showing up in theaters; smartly-written compelling dramas that my hubby and I thoroughly enjoy. And every good Fictionista knows what the start of award show season means:  Red Carpet fashions!! :-)

And let's not forget about the food. Ever walk past a house in October only to stop in your tracks at the tempting smells of homemade pumpkin and apple pies? The mouth-watering aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg drawing you to their source like fingers of smoke in an old Looney Tunes cartoon? Pumpkin bread, muffins, donuts, apple fritters, in addition to the scrumptious offerings of gourmet coffees, pumpkin lattes and salted caramel mochas. My lips and hips clearly have different feelings about my favorite season. :-)

Some people think of spring as a time of renewal, growth and progress, but I'd much rather "fall back" {see what I did there} into October.

What do you look forward to in October?
